IceHogs sign Blackhawks prospect Fredrik Olofsson to professional tryout contract

The Rockford IceHogs signed Blackhawks forward prospect Fredrik Olofsson to an professional tryout contract Wednesday, according to the AHL’s transactions page. The Blackhawks’ AHL affiliate has yet to announce the move.

Olofsson, who turns 23 in May, scored 10 goals and 34 points in 36 games during his senior season at the University of Nebraska-Omaha. The 6-foot-2, 198-pound left winger tallied 95 points (35 goals, 60 assists) in 137 NCAA career games for the Mavericks.

The Blackhawks drafted Olofsson with the 98th overall pick in the 2014 NHL draft. Olofsson, a Chicago Steel alum, could decided to become a free agent if he doesn’t sign an entry-level contract with Chicago before the Aug. 15, 2019 deadline.

Olofsson will wear No. 44 for the IceHogs.

Rockford is on a four-game winning streak after a 2-1 shootout victory over the Chicago Wolves on Wednesday night at BMO Harris Bank Center. The IceHogs hold the fourth and final playoff spot in the AHL’s Central Division, and start a home-and-home against the Admirals on Friday in Milwaukee.
