3 Stars of the Week: Blackhawks prospect Evan Barratt tied for NCAA scoring lead

Every Monday throughout the season, Second City Hockey will highlight prospects who have stood out for their junior, college or professional team during the past week.

Here are this week’s Three Stars:

First Star

Evan Barratt (NCAA Penn State)

Barratt helped Penn State split a weekend series against Michigan. He scored a goal and assisted on another and went 8 of 14 on faceoffs in a 6-4 loss Friday, then tallied a hat trick and went 10 of 15 from the dot in a 7-6 overtime win.

The 2017 third-round draft pick Barratt (nine goals, 10 assists) is tied with teammate Alex Limoges for the NCAA scoring lead with 19 points.

Second Star

Brandon Hagel (WHL Red Deer)

Hagel, who signed with Chicago last month, scored seven points all on special teams (a goal, six assists) during the weekend for Red Deer. The 2016 sixth-round pick by Buffalo scored a short-handed goal and dished out two assists (one on the power play and one short-handed) along with six shots in a 7-0 win over Kelowna on Friday. He then had four primary assists in a 5-4 victory over Kootenay. Three helpers were on the power play and the other came when the Rebels were short-handed.

Third Star

Philipp Kurashev (QMJHL Quebec)

Kurashev had a four-point outing with a power-play goal and three assists in the Remparts’ 6-4 win over Shawinigan. The 2018 fourth-round pick also went 53 percent on face offs (14 of 26) and had three shots in the game. He sent four shots on net and was 68 percent (15 of 22) from the dot in a 5-1 loss to Rimouski.

Kurashev’s 33 points (10 goals, 23 assists) through 23 games rank sixth in the QMJHL.

Others notables

Lucas Carlsson (AHL) — The Swedish defenseman had two assists to be the lone IceHogs skater with more than one point. The 2016 fourth-rounder has two goals and six assists in 18 games this season.

Collin Delia (AHL) — The California goaltender made 67 saves in two losses for Rockford. He stopped 31 shots in a 3-1 loss to Grand Rapids then turned aside 36 pucks in a 5-1 setback to Texas. The undrafated free agent signee holds a .927 save percentage in 11 contests.

Adam Boqvist (OHL London) — The 2018 first-rounder scored a game-winning goal on the power play in a 6-3 victory over Erie. Earlier in the week, he had two assists in the Knights’ 7-3 win against Peterborough. He has 14 points (two goals, 12 assists) in 16 games during his first North American season in the OHL.

Josiah Slavin (USHL Lincoln) — The 2018 seventh-rounder tallied two goals on four shots in a 4-3 overtime loss to Sioux Falls. The Colorado College commit has 17 points (six goals, 11 assists) in 16 USHL games.

MacKenzie Entwistle (OHL Hamilton) — Entwistle dished out two helpers for the Bulldogs in a 6-3 loss to Niagara on Thursday. The day before he had four shots and went 13 of 19 on faceoffs against Barrie. He has 17 points (eight goals, nine assists) through 20 contests.

Artur Kayumov (KHL Lokomotiv) — The 2016 second-round winger had a goal and an assist through two games. The 20-year-old has eight points (three goals, five assists) in 28 games in his first full KHL season.

Ian Mitchell (NCAA Denver) — The 2017 second-round defenseman scored the game-winning goal for the Pioneers against No. 1 Minnesota Duluth. He has 10 points (two goals, eight assists) in 10 outings.

Chad Krys (NCAA Boston) — The 2016 second-round blue liner dished out two assists in the Terriers’ 3-2 win over Maine. The junior has seven points (two goals, five assists) in only six games.
