Blackhawks’ prospect Vinnie Hinostroza to play for Team USA at 2016 World Championships

Chicago Blackhawks prospect Vincent Hinostroza will join Tyler Motte as part of Team USA for the 2016 World Championships, USA Hockey announced Thursday.

The tournament will take place from May 6 through May 22 in Moscow and Saint Petersburg, Russia. New Jersey Devils coach John Hynes will serve as the Americans head coach for the tournament. The Americans have won bronze in two of the last three world championships, and last won in 1960.

Hinostroza, 22, was held scoreless in seven games for the Blackhawks this season. He led the IceHogs in scoring with 51 points (18 goals and 33 assists) in 66 games. He did not record a point in three postseason games.

The Bartlett, Ill. native last wore the stars and stripes during the 2014 World Junior Championships, where he recorded three goals and two assists in five games. He also won bronze at the Under-19 World Junior A Challenge in 2011 and fifth at the 2011 Ivan Hlinka Tournament with the Under-18 USA Select team.

Chicago signed Hinostroza after his sophomore season at Notre Dame in March 2015. The Hawks selected him with the 169th overall pick in the sixth round of the 2012 NHL Draft.
