Blackhawks Prospect Watch: IceHogs riding a 6-game win streak

Here is the weekly look at how some of the Chicago Blackhawks‘ prospects are performing around the globe, starting with the minor league affiliates.

Rockford

The IceHogs (8-2-0-1) swept a three-game road trip to take a five-game winning streak back to Rockford. Peter Regin scored the game-winner in overtime for a 5-4 victory over the Lake Erie Monsters (Colorado Avalanche) Tuesday. Their current six-game win streak tops last season’s by one game. They topped the Grand Rapids Griffiths (Detroit Red Wings) 2-1 on Wednesday, before dominating the San Antonio Rampage (Florida Panthers) over the Halloween weekend, 6-3 on Friday and 5-1 on Saturday.

Regin scored two goals against Lake Erie and Garret Ross had three assists while captain Joakim Nordstrom and Kyle Cumiskey each had one.

Ross recorded the first hat trick of the season Friday night. Ross, Nordstrom, Mark McNeill and Phillip Danault combined for seven goals and seven assists over the past week, while Teuvo Teravainen had a helper in all three games, including two in Grand Rapids.

Rookie defenseman Ville Pokka, acquired in the Nick Leddy trade from the Islanders, scored his first AHL point on Saturday and first AHL goal in San Antonio.

The IceHogs are currently in first place of the Midwest Division, three points in front of the Milwaukee Admirals (Nashville Predators, 7-2-0-1), and one point ahead of the Utica Comets (Vancouver Canucks, 7-1-2-0) for the Western Conference lead.

Indy

The Fuel (2-3-2-1) went 1-0-1- in a pair of games against cross-state rival Evansville. Following a 4-3 shootout win over the IceMen at home on Friday, Evansville defeated the Fuel 4-3 in overtime on Saturday in Evansville. The Fuel are tied for third place in the ECHL’s North Division with seven points.

Forward Robert Czarnik still leads the league with three power-play goals, while defenseman Mathieu Brisebois and forward Brett Perlini are tied for the lead in shootout goals with two a piece. Czarnik also leads the Fuel in points (5G, 2A) and starting goaltender Cody Reichard has posted a 2.75 goals-against average and .900 save-percentage.

NCAA, USHL, and others

Anthony Louis (F), Miami Ohio (NCAA) – Louis has five assists, six points and one block shot in eight games this season. The RedHawks are currently ranked No. 11 in the nation.

Michael Paliotta (D), Vermont (NCAA) – Paliotta has five assists and seven points on the season. He did not record a point in two games against Notre Dame this past week. The Catamounts are ranked No. 13.

Nick Schmaltz (F), North Dakota (NCAA) – Schmaltz recorded his third assist this season and went 4-3 in the face-off circle against Air Force on Saturday. Schmaltz has one goal and is 28-18 on face-offs. The Fighting Sioux remain ranked No. 2.

Luke Johnson (F), North Dakota (NCAA) – Johnson recorded his first assist this season and added two shots while going 10-15 in the face-off circle against Air Force. The sophomore has two goals and is 33-48 on face-offs.

Tyler Motte (F), Michigan (NCAA) – Motte had one assist in two games as Michigan was swept by unranked Michigan Tech. He has two goals and has blocked 11 shots this season.

Vince Hinostroza (F), Notre Dame (NCAA) – Hinostroza had two assists and seven shots while going 7-9 in the face-off circle in two games against Vermont. He has six assists and seven points with one game-winning goal this season for the Irish. He’s also 68-56 in the face-off circle.

Fredrik Olofsson (F), Chicago Steel (USHL) – Olofsson had an assist against Cedar Rapids on Halloween in a 5-3 loss and another helper in a 7-2 win over Des Moines. He has seven goals and five assists in 11 games.

Matheson Iacopelli (F), Muskegon Lumberjacks (USHL) – Iacopelli scored a goal this week as the Lumberjacks split two games. He has eight goals and nine points.

Ivan Nalimov (G), Admiral Vladivostok (KHL) – Nalimov has a 2.80 goals against-average and .903 save-percentage over 12 games this season.

Carl Dahlstrom (D), Linkoping (SHL) – Dahlstrom has one goal with eight penalty minutes over 18 games this season.

Robin Press (D), Södertälje (Allsvenskan) – Press recorded his 13th assist of the season in a 3-1 loss to IF Bjorkloven last Tuesday. He has five goals and 13 helpers in 19 games this season and is tied for third in the league in points.
