The Chicago Blackhawks have re-signed restricted free agent defenseman Viktor Svedberg to a one-year contract, the team announced Wednesday.
Svedberg, 24, dealt with an early-season injury and was given the opportunity to produce with the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League as the progressed as the Hawks traded defenseman prospects Adam Clendening, T.J. Brennan and Klas Dahlbeck.
Svedberg had three goals and 11 assists in 49 regular-season AHL games. The 6-foot-8 defenseman also tallied four assists in eight postseason contests. He was recalled by the Hawks after the IceHogs lost in the second round of the Calder Cup playoffs, and practiced with the Hawks throughout their playoff run.
Prior to his North American career, the Gothenburg, Sweden native recorded seven points (three goals, four assists) in 115 career games with Frölunda and Rogle of the Swedish Hockey League from 2009 to 2013.
Svedberg signed an entry-level contract with the Blackhawks in October of 2013.
