Blackhawks re-sign forward Dennis Rasmussen to 1-year deal

The Chicago Blackhawks re-signed forward Dennis Rasmussen to a one-year contract, the team announced Wednesday. The deal is worth $575,000, per General Fanager. He was set to become a restricted free agent on July 1.

Rasmussen, 25, posted nine points with four goals and five assists in 44 games last season as a rookie. He won 46.9 percent of 309 faceoffs and blocked 20 shots in 9 minutes, 9 seconds of average ice time.

The Swedish center’s main contribution this season came when the Hawks needed to fill the void left by Marcus Kruger, who missed much of the second half after undergoing surgery in December to repair a left dislocated wrist.

The Swedish forward added 16 points with seven goals and nine assists in 25 regular-season games for the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL. He chipped in a goal and an assist in three Calder Cup Playoff games.

The NHL free agency period begins at 11 a.m. CT July 1.
