Blackhawks recall Alexandre Fortin from AHL

The Chicago Blackhawks recalled winger Alexandre Fortin from the AHL on Tuesday night, the team announced.

Fortin, 21, is scoreless through two games with the Rockford IceHogs this season. The 6-foot, 174-pound speedster tallied 21 points (four goals, 17 assists) in 53 regular-season games last season for the IceHogs. He missed 23 games due to a lower-body injury.

Fortin was not one of the 12 IceHogs recalled last season.

Prior to his first professional season, Fortin played three seasons for Rouyn-Noranda in the QMJHL. Chicago signed the undrafted free agent in September 2016 after a breakout performance in training camp.

With the call up, the Blackhawks’ roster is now at 22 players. The move is likely a result of forward Andreas Martinsen’s back injury that kept him out of the team’s practice earlier in the day at MB Ice Arena. The severity of his injury is unknown.

Chicago is off to a 2-0-1 start this season, and visits the Wild on three days rest Thursday at Xcel Energy Center.
