Rockford IceHogs’ offensive woes continue in 3-0 shutout loss to Belleville Senators

Filip Gustavsson made 23 saves to shut out the Rockford IceHogs in a 3-0 win Monday afternoon at BMO Harris Bank Center in Rockford.

Josh Norris scored a goal and an assist for Belleville (25-13-3-1), which swept the two-game season series against the IceHogs (20-20-1-1). The Senators won the first meeting 5-2 on Dec. 13 in Belleville.

Kevin Lankinen made 26 saves in his seventh straight loss (0-6-1-0), dating back to Dec. 21. The loss comes after the IceHogs shut out the Chicago Wolves (Golden Knights), 3-0 behind Collin Delia’s 34 saves Sunday in Rosemont, Illinois.

The IceHogs outshot the Senators 11-3 in the first period then the tables turned with Belleville holding a 13-6 shot advantage in each of the next two periods.

Norris put the Senators up 1-0 at 3:36 of the second when he pushed in a rebound against Lankinen’s left pad off a Drake Batherson shot.

Norris sent a stretch pass to Alex Formenton, who skated past Rockford rookie defenseman Nicolas Beaudin and scored on a breakaway for his 21st goal of the season to make it 2-0 at 2:49 of the third.

Parker Kelly sent a pass from behind the Rockford net to below the right face-off circle for Joseph LaBate to tuck underneath the crossbar at 5:48 for the 3-0 final.

It’s the second time in 10 days the IceHogs have been shutout — a 2-0 loss Jan. 10 at Milwaukee — and fourth time this season. Rockford has scored two goals or less in 12 of its past 14 games.
