Blackhawks’ Ryan Hartman to participate in 2015 NHLPA Rookie Showcase

Chicago Blackhawks forward Ryan Hartman will participate in the 2015 National Hockey League Players Association Rookie Showcase on Sept. 1 in Toronto at Mattamy Athletic Centre, reports Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune.

The 2013 first-round pick for the Hawks will be one of 40 prospects participating.

It is the seventh year of the event, which provides Upper Deck — the official trading card partner of the NHLPA and the NHL — with an exclusive opportunity to photograph the league’s top young players.

Hartman, 20, recorded no points in five games for the Hawks when he was called up from the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League in February. The West Dundee, Ill. native made his NHL debut Feb. 13 against the New Jersey Devils. He made his impact felt immediately with a crushing hit against Danius Zubrus on his first shift.

In Rockford this past season, he tallied 13 goals and 24 assists for 37 in 69 regular-season games before adding three points (two goals, one assist) in eight playoff games.

Prior to his selection in the draft, Hartman had 23 goals and 37 assist in 56 games with the Plymouth Whalers of the OHL. He won gold with Team USA at the 2012 Under-18 World Championship and the 2013 World Junior Championship.

Teuvo Teravainen, the Hawks 2012 first-round pick, participated in the showcase in 2014.
