Blackhawks sign Reese Johnson to 3-year contract

The Blackhawks signed forward Reese Johnson to a three-year contract that runs through the 2021-22 season worth $925,000 annually on Wednesday.

Johnson has 22 goals and 45 points in 62 games this season as captain of the Red Deer Rebels in the WHL. His 45 points are second on the team to Blackhawks prospect and linemate Brandon Hagel, who also signed a three-year deal worth $925,000 with Chicago in October. Hagel is fifth in the league in scoring with 92 points (38 goals, 54 assists) in 61 contests.

The 20-year-old Johnson has 50 goals and 92 points in 182 regular-season games across five seasons with Red Deer. The 6-foot-1, 192-pounder has added two goals and six points in 11 WHL playoff games.

Johnson missed half of the 2015-16 season with a left shoulder injury and all of the 2016-17 campaign with a right shoulder injury.

Both Hagel and Johnson will remain with Red Deer for the rest of the season. The Rebels have 68 points and are tied with the Brandon Wheat Kings for the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference with only six games remaining.
