Blackhawks vs. Blue Jackets preview: Chicago visits winless Blue Jackets

The Chicago Blackhawks look for their third straight victory on Friday night as they face Brandon Saad and the Columbus Blue Jackets. However, they will be doing so without a key team member.

After scoring his 500th career goal on Tuesday to lead the Blackhawks to a 7-4 victory over the Flyers, Marian Hossa suffered a lower-body injury during the third period. Hoss is listed as day-to-day, and will miss tonight’s game at Nationwide Arena.

Ryan Hartman missed Tuesday’s victory over Philly with a lower-body injury, but will return to the lineup tonight. With Hossa on the sidelines, Schmaltz, Hinostroza, and Hartman will be given the chance to show what the kids can do when paired together.

Trevor van Riemsdyk, who played in all 82 games for the Hawks last season, is expected to return to the lineup after being scratched the previous three games. Van Riemsdyk was paired with Gustav Forsling at Thursday’s practice, which would mean Brian Campbell getting sidelined as a healthy scratch. Campbell hasn’t missed a game since 2011.

The Blue Jackets enter tonight’s game looking for their first win of the season after back-to-back losses to the Boston Bruins and San Jose Sharks. Despite their 0-2 record, the Blue Jackets have a young team with the potential to make some waves this year behind guys like Saad, Seth Jones, Boone Jenner and Alexander Wennberg.

With Chicago’s penalty kill still relatively unstable, it will be interesting to see the if Columbus can capitalize, or if the Hawks can skate to their third victory.
