Second City Hockey’s recap of 2018-19 Blackhawks season

The Chicago Blackhawks produced a never-ending roller coaster ride for their fans during the 2018-19 regular season.

It started with a scorching hot 6-2-2 start led by a flurry of goals. Then a depressing 3-16-3 stretch sent the Blackhawks to the bottom of the NHL standings, a span that also saw their three-time Stanley Cup-winning head coach — Joel Quenneville — lose his job, replaced by Jeremy Colliton. The outlook remained bleak at 1901 W. Madison St. until another offensive outburst helped Chicago re-emerge as a playoff contender. That late run ended up short, however, as the Blackhawks missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the second straight season.

During the upcoming days and weeks, the Second City Hockey staff will examine every angle of Blackhawks hockey from the last six months, detailing what went wrong, what went right and what needs to happen in the future for the Blackhawks to return to the postseason in 2020.
