Blackhawks reveal 2019 Winter Classic jersey logo

The Chicago Blackhawks are going back to their roots for next year’s Winter Classic against the Boston Bruins at Notre Dame Stadium. Chicago will wear uniforms from back in the 1920s and ’30s for the annual New Year’s Day outdoor game, the team announced Friday morning.

The logo features a black background with white lettering ‘BLACKHAWKS’ wrapped around the top and ‘CHICAGO’ at the bottom. The original logo from that time featured the team name as Black Hawks. The name wasn’t officially changed to a compound word until 1986 when someone discovered the team’s original NHL contract indicated it should be.

The Indian head logo is still used to this day though it has gone through some modifications, mainly including the use of color. The original logo offers far less detail on the feathers, but the Hawks decided to use their current Indian head in the logo for the upcoming Winter Classic.

The Bruins also unveiled their logo for the event.

Jerseys will be released at a later date.

Chicago is 1-4 in outdoor games, including a 0-3 mark in the Winter Classic. The Blackhawks lone win outside came in 2014 against Pittsburgh in the Stadium Series at Soldier Field in Chicago.

Tickets for next year’s Winter Classic go on sale at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
