Another round of scrimmages unfolded at Fifth Third Arena on Tuesday morning, with portions of the Blackhawks roster starting to sort itself out.
The first news of the day was the first roster cut from camp: Jiri Felcman, a 2023 third-round pick (93rd overall), was sent back to the SCL Tigers in Switzerland, ending this stint with the team. Veteran forward Jason Dickinson was also kept out of practice for a “maintenance day.”
The training camp roster was split into two teams for the scrimmage, and it’s probably safe to assume that any of the players who were on Team C, which practiced following the aforementioned scrimmage, are probably destined for the Rockford IceHogs soon.
As for the scrimmage, here’s a rundown of some highlights:
And now for the Connor Bedard portion of the update:
A funny thing happened in the scrimmage, though: Bedard’s team lost 6-3. And the loss seemed to bother Bedard, per his teammates:
Sulking after a preseason scrimmage defeat feels like the kind of story that will go into the Bedard documentary 15 years later when someone is asked to explain the mental makeup that made Bedard into the player he became. Please note: definitely not a bad thing.
During his media session, coach Luke Richardson also highlighted the play of an unheralded blue-line duo:
Two days until the Blackhawks first preseason game, which is Thursday night at the United Center against the St. Louis Blues. Should get a better sample of where some of these position battles stand based on what happens during that game.
