SCH Ice Cold Podcast Episode 17: Vesey watch and the end of the Rundblad Era

The dog days of summer and missing hockey are in full swing. Yet, there’s still some house keeping to consider for the Blackhawks. Robert and Adam discuss the watch of top college free agent, Jimmy Vesey, take a look at other potential left wing candidates and underrated Hawks prospects who could make an impact, discuss favorite Olympic events, and the merits of ‘Suicide Squad’, among other ideas.

The overall rundown:

  • Reports say Chicago is on the short list of teams that college free agent Jimmy Vesey would sign with.
  • Does Vesey solve their left wing problems? What does signing someone like Vesey or a veteran do for the lineup? Is it wise to have high expectations for the 23-year-old?
  • With SCH doing it’s annual ‘Top 25 Prospects Under 25’ series, the guys take a look at underrated players not named Nick Schmaltz and other bigger names that could make an impact next year and in the near future. (The pipeline is a little depressing but not as thin as you might think)
  • David Rundblad’s time as a Hawk has come to an end.
  • Why did it never work out with the Hawks or other NHL teams Rundblad has played for? What’s your “favorite” memory of the short lived Rundblad era? Is this a philosophy coaching question or is he really just not good? (Spoiler: The latter)
  • The annual question of Chicago’s prominence on the NBC national television schedule.
  • Is it wise to continually complain that the Hawks are featured too much? What’s the reasoning behind this scheduling? Is it worth it to NBC to broadcast a budding star on a bad team from another country like Connor McDavid instead of their most popular draws? (Enjoy this for now Hawks fans)
  • Have the guys caught any good Pokemon in ‘Pokemon Go’? (Do they really want to be the very best?)
  • General Twitter questions: Favorite Olympic event/sport with the games starting Friday, how the guys like their steak (medium is the correct answer) etc.
  • Why Suicide Squad is a complete mess (according to the critics) or not. Another impassioned nerdy debate between the guys.
