The Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Red Wings will both look to rebound from overtime losses when the two former division rivals clash Thursday at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.
Chicago (22-19-7) dropped the first game of its back to back with a 3-2 overtime decision to Toronto on Wednesday. It was the fourth straight loss and second time in the last three games Chicago has been shut out. The Hawks finished their five-game homestand 1-4-1.
Detroit (19-20-8) suffered the same fate at home against Philadelphia the night before.
It’s the second and final regular-season meeting between Chicago and Detroit this season. The Red Wings blanked the Hawks 4-0 on Jan. 14.
Patrick Kane leads the Hawks with 37 points (11 goals, 27 assists) in 44 career games against Detroit. With an assist in Wednesday’s loss, Kane is one point shy of 50 for the season. He has reached the 50-point mark in every season of his career.
Anton Forsberg will start in net after Jeff Glass made 33 saves Wednesday. Forsberg, who is 3-7-3 with a 3.15 goals-against average and a .907 save percentage, has never faced the Red Wings in the regular season.
Dylan Larkin leads Detroit’s scoring with 38 points (eight goals, 30 assists). Larkin has ramped up his play in the last 15 games with 14 points (three goals, 11 assists). Anthony Mantha hasn’t had any trouble finding the back of the net with a team-high 15 goals. Mantha had a goal and an assist against Chicago earlier this month.
Detroit goaltender Petr Mrazek made 28 saves in the win in Chicago. Mrazek has started both games of the Red Wings’ back to back Monday and Tuesday, so Detroit could turn to Jimmy Howard in net. Howard hasn’t played since Jan. 20, when he stopped 27 of the 30 shots he faced in Detroit’s 3-1 loss to Carolina.
