Blackhawks look to sweep season series against Red Wings

The Blackhawks will go for forth 10th win in their last 12 overall games and the season sweep against the Red Wings on Wednesday night in Detroit.

Chicago enter’s the matchup after a crazy 8-7 home win over Ottawa that saw Alex DeBrincat score five points, including his fourth career hat trick. DeBrincat also tallied a hat trick last season in Detroit against his hometown team.

Patrick Kane stretched his point streak to 18 games, an NHL high this season, with a goal and two assists Monday. He has assists in 17 consecutive games, tying the third-longest streak in league history.

Kane can catch Adam Oates (1992-93 season) for the second longest assist streak on Wednesday. Wayne Gretzky holds the record at 23 during the 1990-91 campaign.

The Blackhawks can move into the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference with a win and a home loss by the Avalanche to the Jets.

Chicago will turn to Cam Ward in net after he allowed four goals in relief Monday. Defenseman Brent Seabrook (abdominal strain) is out for a second straight game, while Brendan Perlini (illness) is a game-time decision.

Dominik Kahun had two goals and an assist, and Ward made 43 saves in the Blackhawks’ 5-2 win over Detroit on Feb. 10 in Chicago.

Detroit has dropped back-to-back games to Philadelphia. The Red Wings rallied from a four-goal deficit in the third period before falling 6-5 in overtime Saturday in Philadelphia, then lost 3-1 Sunday at home.

Detroit backup netminder Jonathan Bernier exited Sunday’s tilt after the first period due to a neck injury. Jimmy Howard entered in relief and is expected to start Wednesday night.

Broadcasting debut

After 30-plus years broadcasting sports, Mike Tirico will call his first hockey game Wednesday. He’ll be joined in the booth by game analyst Eddie Olczyk and on-ice analyst Brian Boucher.
