Blackhawks’ Dylan Strome will play for Canada at 2019 IIHF World Championship

Blackhawks center Dylan Strome will make his Canadian men’s national team debut next month at the World Championship in May in Slovakia, Hockey Canada announced Monday.

Strome, 22, scored 17 goals and 51 points in 58 games this past season with the Blackhawks after being traded from Arizona with Brendan Perlini for Nick Schmaltz in November. Prior to the trade, Strome had only amassed three goals and six points in 20 games.

Strome last played for Canada at 2017 World Junior Championship, where he served as the team captain. He scored three goals and 10 points during Canada’s silver-medal run when they fell to the United States. Strome also had six points (four goals, two assists) during the 2016 World Juniors tournament.

Canada will be in Group A during pool play in Kosice along with Denmark, Finland, France, Great Britain, Germany, Slovakia and the United States. The tournament runs from May 10-26 in Slovakia.
