Blackhawks sign forward Jacob Nilsson to 1-year deal

The Chicago Blackhawks have added another player to their forward group, signing Swedish forward Jacob Nilsson to a one-year deal, the team announced Thursday.

The 24-year-old center, who stands 5-foot-11 and weighs 179 pounds, played in 40 games for Mora IK in Sweden during the 2017-18 season, scoring eight goals with 10 assists. Before that, he had 20 goals and 22 assists while playing in 46 games, helping Mora IK get promoted to the top division of Swedish hockey.

And the Blackhawks weren’t the only one after Nilsson:

If Nilsson ends up playing for the Rockford Ice Hogs this season — and that seems like the logical landing spot for Nilsson, considering the Hawks logjam of players and prospects at forward — he’ll have a familiar face behind the bench. Rockford coach Jeremy Colliton coached Nilsson during Colliton’s four seasons at Mora IK before taking over in Rockford to start the 2017-18 season.
