Blackhawks announce 16 jersey numbers for new players, prospects

The Blackhawks announced jersey numbers for 16 players Wednesday.

Andrei Altybarmakyan (No. 84) — Altybarmakyan would join Alexandre Fortin (2019) as the only players to wear it for the Blackhawks. Altybarmakyan had No. 96 with Sochi in the KHL and No. 16 with the Russia national team at the 2018 World Juniors. No. 96 has never been worn for the Blackhawks.

Evan Barratt (No. 26) — Barratt would be the 19th player to wear it, and the first since Kyle Cumiskey (2015). Barratt had No. 17 at Penn State and with the United States at the 2019 WJC. Dylan Strome currently holds No. 17.

Matej Chalupa (No. 67) — Chalupa would be the fourth player to wear it, and the first since Jacob Nilsson (2019). Chalupa had No. 71 with Mountfield HK in the Czech Republic.

Mattias Janmark (No. 13)Janmark will be the fourth player to wear it, and the first since Tomas Jurco (2018). Janmark previously wore it with Dallas.

Wyatt Kalynuk (No. 48) — Kalynuk would be the fourth player to wear it, and the first since Vinnie Hinostroza (2016-18). Kalynuk wore No. 2 during his college career at Wisconsin. Duncan Keith holds No. 2, which will be retired whenever Keith decides to leave the British Columbia wilderness and show up for the ceremony.

Philipp Kurashev (No. 23) — Kurashev would be the 20th player to wear it, and the first since Brandon Manning (2019). Kurashev also wore No. 23 with the Switzerland national team. He wore No. 25 this past season in the AHL. He’s currently on loan with Lugano in Switzerland’s National League where he’s wearing No. 96, the number he wore with Quebec City in the QMJHL. He was assigned No. 71 last year, but did not receive a call up during the season.

Kevin Lankinen (No. 32) — Lankinen would be the 22nd player to wear it, and the first since Michal Rozsival (2013-17). Lankinen has worn No. 30 throughout his career in the AHL, Liiga and with the Finnish national team. He was assigned No. 34 last year during his call ups, but did not get into a game.

Anton Lindholm (No. 54)Lindholm is likely to be in the AHL, but if he does get into an NHL game he’d be the third player to wear it, and the first since Brian Felsner (1998). Lindholm wore No. 54 in Colorado.

Ian Mitchell (No. 51) — Mitchell will be the fourth player to wear it, and the first since Brian Campbell (2016-17). Mitchell wore No. 15 during his college career at Denver. No. 15 is currently held by Zack Smith.

Brad Morrison (No. 78) — The number has never been worn in Blackhawks history. Morrison has a long way to go to change that.

Cam Morrison (No. 45) — Morrison would be the sixth player to wear it, and the first since Adam Berti (2008). Morrison had No. 26 during his NCAA career at Notre Dame.

Brandon Pirri (No. 73) — Pirri is back for his second stint with the Blackhawks and is flipping his number around after having No. 37 (2010-14) the first time around. He also had No. 73 with Florida (2013-16), Rangers (2016-17) and Golden Knights (2017-20). The number has never been worn for the Blackhawks. He did differ from No. 73 once when he had No. 11 with the Ducks (2015-16).

Pius Suter (No. 24) — Suter would be the 14th player to wear it, and the first since Dominik Kahun (2019). Suter previously wore No. 24 with the Swiss national team at 2015 WJC. He had No. 44 with Zurich in Switzerland and No. 22 with Guelph in the OHL.

Michal Teply (No. 53) — Teply would be the fifth player to wear it, and the first since Brandon Mashinter (2016). Reese Johnson was assigned it last year, but never played in a regular season game. Teply had No. 71 this past season for Winnipeg in the WHL, and No. 11 for the Czech national team at the 2020 WJC. He wore No. 95 for Liberec in the Czech Republic before he was drafted in 2019.

Lucas Wallmark (No. 71)Wallmark will be the first player to wear it. He previously wore it with Carolina and Florida.

Nikita Zadorov (No. 16) — Zadorov will be the 31st player to wear it, and the first since Marcus Kruger (2019). Zadorov previously wore it with the Avalanche after he had Nos. 61 and 51 with the Sabres.
