Blackhawks re-assign Dennis Gilbert, Brandon Hagel to AHL

The Blackhawks re-assigned defenseman Dennis Gilbert and forward Brandon Hagel to the Rockford IceHogs in the AHL on Sunday night after a 5-2 victory over the Jets at United Center.

Gilbert was a healthy scratch for six straight games after playing 20 games with the Blackhawks this season. The 23-year old has three points (one goal, two assists) and 72 hits, but has struggled in possession metrics with a 42.6-percent Corsi-For and a 40.4-percent expected goals for.

The Blackhawks recalled Hagel from the AHL on Jan. 16, but he did not play a game. He has 21 points (13 goals, eight assists) in 38 AHL games this season.

Chicago plays Tuesday against the Panthers for its last game before the NHL All-Star break and extended bye week. The Blackhawks return from their bye week Saturday, Feb. 1, so the roster moves likely point to Hagel and Gilbert getting playing time during that stretch. The IceHogs play five games in that span, starting at 1 p.m. Monday against Belleville in Rockford.
