Your New Aesthetic: Blackhawks 5, Senators 1

Coming off of their worst start to a season in franchise history, the Blackhawks entered Monday night’s contest with the Senators in dire need of a victory.

After a miserable opening stretch of 0-7-2, the Hawks were finally able to shake their October rust, capturing two points in a 5-1 win over the Ottawa Senators.

Brandon Hagel opened the scoring with a quick shot from the slot, giving the Blackhawks a 1-0 lead.

Patrick Kane — who missed four games in COVID-19 protocol — added to the Chicago lead with a power-play goal early in the second period.

Only 27 seconds into the third period, Hagel found the back of the net once more, putting the Blackhawks up 3-0.

Hagel traded goals with Kane once more, as No. 88 in red scored his second goal of the evening, less than a minute later.

Alex Formenton broke the shutout just 19 seconds later.

To the delight of the thousands in attendance, as well as those watching at home, Kane completed the hat trick and effectively sealed a 5-1 victory for the Blackhawks.

Notes

  • Well, it finally happened: the Blackhawks won a game!
  • This Hawks roster did exactly what they should’ve done against this Sens team. Especially at home. The defense did enough, Marc-Andre Fleury — albeit not tested much — was fantastic when he needed to be and having Kane back clearly helps a lot.
  • Hagel was not too shabby himself, earning his first career multi-goal game. 38 Special would’ve likely been the No. 1 star, had Kane not decided to go nuclear.
  • Jonathan Toews quietly had himself a nice night. The Captain offered 3 assists and looks like he may be starting to find his rhythm after being out for over a year.
  • The Hawks played well but we will know a lot more once we see them bring their “A” game against a better team. The lines were a bit odd and the defense, as we’ve come to expect, went on a few adventures.
  • Hopefully going forward, the Hawks will continue to improve and give us something fun to watch. Winning is fun. Remember winning? Let’s do more of that. /
