The Rockford IceHogs, the Blackhawks’ AHL affiliate, re-signed forward Tyler Sikura to a one-year AHL contract Monday.
Sikura scored 19 points (seven goals, 12 assists) in 50 AHL games last season. It was quite a dip in production for Sikura, who tallied 39 points (23 goals, 16 assists) in 74 games during the 2017-18 season as a rookie. He’s the older brother of Dylan Sikura, who is waiver exempt and could start next season with the Blackhawks or IceHogs.
The re-signing of Tyler Sikura gives head coach Derek King, who inked a two-year extension in April, a plethora of options at wing.
Here’s a look at what the IceHogs’ lineup could look like next season:
Aleksi Saarela – Jacob Nilsson – Matthew Highmore
Brandon Hagel — Philipp Kurashev – MacKenzie Entwistle
Tim Soderlund/Alexandre Fortin – Mikael Hakkarainen – Kris Versteeg
Tyler Sikura/Graham Knott – Reese Johnson – Nathan Noel
The lineup will be impacted based on whether Nilsson, Saarela, Dylan Sikura, Anton Wedin or John Quenneville — who is not waiver exempt — will be in Rockford.
