The Blackhawks signed forward Mattias Janmark to a one-year, $2.25 million contract Monday.
The 27-year-old Janmark was an unrestricted free agent. He scored 21 points (six goals, 15 assists) in 62 games this past season, and added a career-high eight points (one goal, seven assists) in 26 postseason contests during Dallas’ run to the Stanley Cup Final, a six-game loss to the Lightning.
Janmark (6-foot-1, 195 pounds) is a bottom-six forward who can play center or wing. He averaged 14:37 of ice time and ranked third on the Stars in scoring chances allowed per 60 this past season.

Selected in the third round of the 2013 NHL Draft by the Red Wings, Janmark was traded to Dallas in March 2015. He scored 29 points (15 goals, 14 assists) in 73 games during his rookie season then missed the entire 2016-17 season after having knee surgery. Doctors discovered he had Osteochondritis dissecans, a genetic joint disorder in which cracks form in the cartilage and bone, causing blood deprivation and making the knee lock up.
Janmark rebounded the following season with a career-high 34 points (19 goals, 15 assists) in 81 games under new head coach Ken Hitchcock. Janmark’s role started to become more defensive orientated and he scored 25 points (six goals, 19 assists) in 81 games with Jim Montgomery at the helm before Rick Bowness took over last December when Montgomery was fired.
Janmark has scored 109 points (46 goals, 63 assists) in 297 regular-season games and 16 points (four goals, 12 assists) in 45 playoff games.
