Middle of Nowhere: Canucks 2, Blackhawks 0

Credit: Bob Frid-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Blackhawks went down early against the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena on Monday night and, despite multiple power-play opportunities, the Hawks were unable to manifest any semblance of an offense and ultimately lost 2-0.

It wasn’t long into the game before the Canucks opened up the scoring with a goal from former Blackhawk, Pius Suter.

About five minutes later, the Canucks added to their lead when Quinn Hughes roofed one from the left wing circle.

While the Hawks spent a good amount of the second frame on the power play, they did not make much of any of those opportunities.

Despite another late power-play chance in the third period, the Blackhawks were unable to muster up any offense. There really is not much else to this one. The Hawks — who don’t have that much offensive firepower to begin with — are still very much affected by injuries. They had plenty of opportunities to be in this game. Yet, their lack of offense let them down and they skated off the Rogers Arena ice with a 2-0 loss.

Notes

  • This Vancouver team is not all that impressive despite being atop the league standings. Yet, the Hawks are so devoid of any offense right now that Vancouver carried its early 2-0 lead through two more periods and all the way to 2 points.
  • Petr Mrazek settled in after a rough start and saved 27 of 29, finishing with a .931 save percentage. You can’t ask for much more than that. The goals need to come on the other end of the ice when he plays like that.
  • While not the original design, it’s good to see the Canucks “skate” logo is still alive and well. I love a good ’90’s throwback look.
  • Nick Foligno put on seven shots. He gave an effort. So, that’s … something, I guess?
  • The Hawks have over 30 losses in regulation and it’s still only January. We’re not done yet, folks!
