Blackhawks goaltender Corey Crawford will return from concussion this week

Corey Crawford will return to action this week during the Blackhawks’ three-game road trip for the first time since his second concussion in December.

Head coach Jeremy Colliton, however, did not specify which game Crawford will play in. The Blackhawks begin their trip out West on Wednesday in Anaheim before a back-to-back Saturday and Sunday in Los Angeles and San Jose, respectively.

The Blackhawks activated Crawford from injured reserve Monday after he missed 28 games. He suffered the head injury when his head hit the left goalpost during a collision in the crease against San Jose on Dec. 16 at the United Center.

In his absence, the Blackhawks went 16-9-3 with veteran Cam Ward and rookie Collin Delia sharing the net. Delia went 6-4-3 with a 3.48 goals-against average and .909 save percentage during his call up before being re-assigned to the AHL.

Prior to Crawford’s head injury, he was 6-14-2 with a 3.28 GAA and .902 save percentage in 23 games. He missed the first five games of the season as he was working his way back from his first concussion that caused him to miss 47 games last season.
