Dale Weise joins Blackhawks after obtaining work visa, expected to play in Boston

Dale Weise will join the Chicago Blackhawks in Detroit on Wednesday night after obtaining a work visa, reports Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun Times.

Weise will not play against the Red Wings, but is expected to make his Chicago debut against the Boston Bruins on Thursday night in Boston.

The 27-year-old forward was acquired with Tomas Fleischmann from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for Phillip Danault and a 2018 second-round pick Friday. Fleischmann and Christian Ehrhoff, who the Hawks acquired via trade with the Los Angeles Kings for Rob Scuderi did not miss action because they had green cards.

Weise has a career-high 14 goals and 26 points in 56 games with Montreal this season. The 6-foot-2, 206-pound winger has 37 goals and 85 points in 314 games during six NHL seasons with the New York Rangers (2010-11), Vancouver Canucks (2011-14) and Montreal (2014-16). He has tallied five goals and 10 points in 34 playoff contests.

He is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer along with Fleischmann. He has a $717,500 salary cap hit thanks to Montreal retaining salary.
