Drake Caggiula to return from concussion for Blackhawks vs. Kings

Drake Caggiula will return to the Blackhawks’ lineup Saturday night against the Kings in Los Angeles after missing 13 games with a concussion. Caggiula will replace Brendan Perlini and defenseman Carl Dahlstrom will draw in for Slater Koekkoek, Blackhawks head coach Jeremy Colliton told the media after practice.

Caggiula was blindsided by Ducks forward Rickard Rakell in the opening minute of the second period Feb. 27 at the Honda Center in Anaheim. Caggiula went to retrieve a puck in the offensive zone when Rakell came up from behind and hit Caggiula in the back that made him go face-first into the glass.

Rakell was assessed a 5-minute major boarding penalty and a game misconduct for the hit. Caggiula was later diagnosed with a concussion. He has scored four goals with three assists in 21 games since being acquired from Edmonton in November.

The Blackhawks have seen five players miss time with concussions this season: goaltender Corey Crawford, centers Artem Anisimov and Marcus Kruger and Perlini.
