Former Chicago Blackhawks head coach Alpo Suhonen has been named the new coach for the Austrian men’s national team.
Shuhonen, 67, was the first European-born NHL coach in more than 50 years when he was named Chicago’s coach in 2000-01 season. He coached the Hawks to a 29-41-8-4 record in one season before he was replaced by Brian Sutter.
San Jose beat St. Louis in Game 6 to advance to their first trip to the Stanley Cup Final. Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay will play in Game 7 with a trip to the Cup Final on the line.
