The 2016 NHL All-Star Game is finally here as the league’s top players suit up for our favorite glorified exhibition contest Sunday evening. This year’s contest is a 3-on-3 tournament featuring teams divided by division. The Central’s team is captained by Blackhawks star Patrick Kane, who took a hearty booing last night that had John Scott cracking up.
Jonathan Toews and Alex Ovechkin will be sitting out the All-Star Game, but it’s still full of big names. From Kane and Jamie Benn — the league’s top two scorers — to Jaromir Jagr and P.K. Subban, there’s a lot of star power. There’s also Scott, who has spent the weekend making the NHL look like fools by having an utterly amazing time with his peers and fans in Nashville.
And with the new 3-on-3 format, there’s a decent chance you’ll witness something you’ve never seen before. The event will be split into three 20-minute games. First, the division teams will play to decide who will represent the Western and Eastern Conferences in the “championship game.” The final 20-minute game will be between the two winners and decide who leaves this newfangled All-Star Game victorious.
