NHL Network ranks Blackhawks’ Patrick Kane No. 12 player right now

Chicago Blackhawks winger Patrick Kane was ranked No. 12 player right now by a NHL Network panel. Kane’s ranking was reveled Sunday night on NHL Network’s “NHL Tonight” show.

Kane was ranked fourth on last year’s list and took the top spot in 2016.

The rankings are based on a player’s performance during the past several seasons, with an emphasis on the 2017-2018 season. The ranking also weighted players’ projected performance for the upcoming season, taking into account those returning from injury and expectant breakout seasons.

Kane, who turns 30 in November, was also ranked the fourth-best winger in the NHL in August. He recorded 27 goals and 76 points in 82 games last season as the Blackhawks missed the playoffs for the first time since Kane’s rookie season in 2007-08.

It was the second straight season Kane saw a drop in production with 89 and 106 points the previous two seasons, respectively. Kane’s 76 points ranked 13th among all NHL wingers.

The Hawks start the home half of their preseason schedule Tuesday, when they host the Detroit Red Wings at the United Center.
