NHL postpones 2020 scouting combine, awards show, draft due to coronavirus

The NHL postponed three major league events Wednesday due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

• NHL Scouting Combine (June 1-6 in Buffalo)

• NHL Awards (June 18 in Las Vegas)

• NHL Draft (June 26-27 in Montreal)

The news comes one day after the League told its players to self-isolate for an additional 10 days.

According to the NHL, the “location, timing and format” of the draft lottery and draft will be announced “when details are finalized.” The 2005 NHL draft, which was held at the Westin Hotel in Ottawa due to the lockout, is the only draft to not be a public event since 1980.

The NHL suspended its season indefinitely March 12 due to coronavirus when the Blackhawks (32-20-8) had 12 games remaining on their schedule. If the season does not resume they would have the ninth-best odds for the first overall pick in this year’s draft.
