NHL will have third jerseys for 2018-19 season

NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly confirmed during a news conference Monday that third jerseys will make their return for the 2018-19 season, reports Greg Wyshynski of ESPN.

We are bringing back third jerseys next season. I can’t tell you the number exactly, but about a third of the teams will have a different one,” Daly said.

The NHL’s third jerseys were discontinued for 2017-18 season after adidas redesigned team uniforms league wide.

The Chicago Blackhawks haven’t had an alternate jersey since the 2010-11 season, when they were occasionally wearing black throwback alternates they rolled out at the Winter Classic. The Hawks likely didn’t take any issue with the change last season as they usually stayed with wearing red sweaters at home and white for road games.

The news of alternate jerseys returning is welcomed by fans who liked Chicago’s black uniforms and others across the league as teams were able to change things up every now and again.
