On this date in Blackhawks history: Chicago rallies from 2-0 deficit to tie series vs. Canucks

With the NHL on pause and the World Championship tournament canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Second City Hockey will look back at Blackhawks playoff games since 2010 with an “On this date in Blackhawks history” series.

Brent Seabrook had a goal and two assists, and the Blackhawks rallied from a 2-0 deficit for a 4-2 win against the Canucks to tie the 2010 Western Conference semifinals series 1-1.

Seabrook tapped in a loose puck at the hashmarks of the left face-off circle to cut the deficit to 2-1 at 7:40 of the first period. He then cleared the puck out of the defensive zone down the right boards to Patrick Sharp, who sent a backhand shot past Roberto Luongo to tie it 2-2 at 6:49 of the third period. Seabrook passed the puck to the high slot where Keith sent a slap pass to the left circle for Versteeg, who went top shelf for a 3-2 lead with 1:30 remaining in the game.

Patrick Kane scored into an empty net on his backhand with 48 seconds to go for the 4-2 final. Versteeg had a goal and an assist, and Antti Niemi made 24 saves. Chicago was 5-for-6 on the penalty kill.

The Canucks took a 2-0 lead 5:02 into the game with goals by Mason Raymond and Mikael Samuelsson. Raymond pounced on a rebound in front of the net and put Vancouver up 1-0 at 1:22 then Henrik Sedin sent a pass across the slot to Samuelsson, who fired a one-timer into a half-empty net for a power-play goal to make it 2-0.

Blackhawks take 2 vs. Wild

Chicago was 3-0 in playoff games — all at home — this past decade on May 3, with two wins against Minnesota.

In 2013, Michael Frolik and Sharp each scored two goals in a 5-2 win for a 2-0 first-round series lead. Kane and Andrew had two assists apiece, and Corey Crawford made 26 saves.

In 2015, Kane scored two goals and Crawford made 30 saves in the Blackhawks’ 4-1 victory for a 2-0 series lead in the Western Conference semifinals. Sharp had a goal and an assist, and Jonathan Toews also scored. It was the third straight year the Blackhawks took a 2-0 series lead against the Wild.
