Patrick Kane expected to play in Blackhawks’ preseason opener

Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane will highlight the Chicago Blackhawks preseason opener when they host the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday night at the United Center.

Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcasted on WGN.

New alternate captain Brent Seabrook leads the blue line group. David Rundblad, new addition Trevor Daley, veterans Jan Hejda and Lubomir Visnovsky are also expected to play. Hejda and Visnovsky are both on professional tryout contracts with the Hawks. Viktor Svedberg is the sixth defenseman listed on the roster.

Scott Darling will start in net while Mark Visentin will serve as his backup.

Marian Hossa, Teuvo Teravainen and Andrew Desjardins join Toews and Kane as old faces hitting the ice. Prospects Kyle Baun and Dennis Rasmussen, who saw limited time last season are both expected to play.

Artem Anisimov and Marko Dano, who were both acquired in the trade that sent Brandon Saad to Columbus, will play. Dano will likely get top-line billing with Toews and Hossa. Ryan Garbutt, who was acquired in the Patrick Sharp-Stephen Johns trade to Dallas, and Ryan Haggerty and Daniel Paille are also listed. Paille is also on a PTO contract.

The Hawks will be without rookie forward Artemi Panarin, who will miss the first few preseason games with an upper-body injury. Marcus Kruger will also not be available as he hasn’t arrived in Chicago from Sweden due to visa issues.
