Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Johnny Oduya suffered a tear in his left elbow and forward Kris Versteeg battled through a right knee injury during the Stanley Cup playoffs, reports ESPN Chicago’s Scott Powers.
Oduya said he suffered the injury in Game 3 of the Final against the Tampa Bay Lighting on June 8. He missed some of the first period in that game, but played through the pain as the Hawks won three straight games to win their third Cup in six seasons. The Swedish defenseman tallied five assists in 23 games this postseason.
Versteeg, who bounced in and out of the lineup with Bryan Bickell on the second line, said his right knee, which he previously had ACL surgery, plagued him during the postseason. He plans to “clean up my knee and a couple other things.” He scored one goal and an assist in 12 postseason games this spring.
Powers also reported that Marcus Kruger sustained an injury, but he did not give specifics of his injury. Hawks coach Joel Quenneville is also mentioned in the report, saying Andrew Shaw was a game-time decision for Game 6 due to an undisclosed injury.
