SCH 30 Days of Fandom, Day 1: Why are you a Blackhawks fan?

With the Blackhawks bowing out of the Stanley Cup Playoffs in the first round for the first time since 2012, we have a much longer offseason to fill with content and fun than normal. One of the ways we have decided to that is to do this 30 day “challenge” in which we will present a topic for you, the SCH commenters and community, to answer. Every day for 30 days we will have a new topic to discuss in the comments.

Please remember that not everyone’s opinions are the same. We ask that you do not mock others for their opinions that are different than yours. Everyone’s varying opinions are good to help create discussion, and we can come to know each other a little better through this exercise.

Stick tap to Cageside Seats, SBN’s Pro Wrestling blog, for the idea.

Day 1: Why are you a Blackhawks fan?

Adam: For me, this is a pretty complicated question that I can kind of answer a few different ways. One of the main reasons I am a Blackhawks fan is just a matter of location; growing up near Chicago, liking the Chicago sports teams just made sense. But if I had to pick a particular moment that locked in my Blackhawks/hockey fandom, it was when I was 6 years old. It was the old Dollar Bill Wirtz era, and tickets were still cheap. My dad, two of my uncles, and I went to a game against the Philadelphia Flyers and got seats right on the glass. I think it was in the middle of the second period that my dad went and got beers for everyone, set them on the edge of the glass, and not 30 seconds later two of the biggest men I have ever seen came crashing into the boards right in front of us and splashed those beers all over them. It was surprising and hilarious and I fell in love with hockey that day.
