Stanley Cup Playoffs Game Thread, 5/1

Let’s watch some playoff hockey! Scroll down to the comments to discuss Monday night’s game.

Eastern Conference

New York Rangers at New Jersey Devils, 7 p.m. CT (ESPN)

Series is tied at 3-3.

After looking unbeatable for Games Three through Five all the sudden the Devils, and goalie Akira Schmid, looked very beatable in Game Six at Madison Square Garden. The Rangers got goals from five different players (including Mika Zibanejad, who’d been a passenger for most of the series) and played a lot more like the well balanced team that took it to New Jersey in the first few games. The Devils are averaging four penalties per-game and New York’s Chris Kreider currently leads the league in playoff power play goals (five), so it would be in New Jersey’s best interest to stay out of the box. The Rangers playoff experience should serve them well here. The Devils need to come out fast, keep it loose, and get to New York goaltender Igor Shesterkin as soon as possible.
