Stanley Cup Playoffs Game Thread, 5/8

Western Conference

Vegas Golden Knights at Edmonton Oilers – 7:30 p.m. CT (ESPN)

Series is tied 1-1

The series was billed as Connor McDavid vs. Jack Eichel (because, narratives!) but it’s quickly turned into Leon Draisaitl vs. Everybody. Draisatl currently leads the entire NHL in playoff goals – with 13 in eight games (including a ridiculous six goals in the first two games of this series). To give that number some further context, Nathan MacKinnon lead the entire NHL in goals during last year’s playoffs and finished with the same number as Draisaitl (13) but it took him 26 games to get there. A number that needs no further context; the Oilers power play is currently coverting at a historically ridiculous 56 percent clip. The intensity picked up in Game 2 as both teams combined for a whopping 139 penalty minutes, Vegas is going to need to play a lot smarter tonight to keep Edmonton off the power play while they try and slow down Draisaitl (good luck with that).

And on the subject of luck, come join us at 6:45 p.m. this evening at our brand spanking new YouTube channel as we bask in the glory/recoil in horror at the results of the NHL Draft Lottery live as they happen. Godspeed to us all.

[UPDATE] We’re live (once again)!!
