3 Stars of the Week: Blackhawks prospect Philipp Kurashev stays hot in QMJHL

Every Monday throughout the season, Second City Hockey will highlight prospects who have stood out for their junior, college or professional team during the past week.

Here are this week’s Three Stars:

First Star

Philipp Kurashev (QMJHL/Quebec)

Stats of the week: 4 goals (2 power plays), 1 assist

Kurashev had another strong week with five points, including a goal in each game. He scored both of Quebec’s goals in a 3-2 loss to Val-d’Or on Saturday and added a power-play goal and a secondary assist on the man advantage in a 4-3 loss to Blainville-Boisbriand on Sunday.

The 2018 fourth-round pick has scored eight goals this month, with a goal in six of his last seven games. He has 14 goals and 37 points in only 27 games this season.

Second Star

Collin Delia (AHL/Rockford IceHogs)

Stats of week: 48 saves on 50 shots

Delia stopped 35 shots in Rockford’s 2-1 shootout loss to San Antonio. It was one of those games Blackhawks fans have become all too familiar with as the goaltender kept the team in it only for the offense not to deliver. Delia then had a 13-save shutout performance in the IceHogs’ 7-2 loss to the Wolves.

Delia is suffering from a lower-body injury that interim head coach Derek King described as a “tweak” Sunday at Allstate Arena in Rosemont. The undrafted free agent signee is 5-4-4 with a 2.35 goals-against average and .932 save percentage in 14 AHL games this season. Rockford recalled Kevin Lankinen from the ECHL on Sunday while Delia gets back to 100 percent.

Third Star

Stats of week: 4 goals (1 power play)

Adam Boqvist (OHL/London) — Boqvist’s goal scoring streak came to an end Sunday, but not before he added four more to his season total. Both of his goals Thursday against Mississauga came in the first period and he had two the next night against Owen Sound.

Boqvist’s three-game point streak (five goals, one assist) ended in London’s win over Windsor on Sunday. He has six goals and 13 assists in his first OHL season.

Others

Jordan Schroeder (AHL/IceHogs) — Schroeder had three primary assists and one secondary helper for the IceHogs. The 2009 first-rounder of Vancouver has four goals and 10 points in 13 AHL games.

Anthony Louis (AHL/IceHogs) — The 2013 sixth-rounder scored twice and had a primary assist this week. He has eight goals and 13 points in 22 games during his second full AHL season.

Dylan Sikura (AHL/IceHogs) — The 2014 sixth-rounder had a goal and a secondary assist across three games. The highly-touted prospect has some nice production this season with six goals and nine assists in 22 contests in his first AHL stint.

JUNIORS

Nicolas Beaudin (QMJHL/Drummondville) — The 2018 first-round pick had a power play goal and five assists this week. After one primary assist Friday in a 7-2 win over Saint John, Beaudin led Drummondville with four points (power play goal, two assists) Saturday’s 7-1 victory against Moncton. Both assists in the win over Moncton came on special teams — a primary feed on a short handed tally and a secondary helper on the man advantage. Beaudin had two assists (one primary) the next day in a 6-3 win over Halifax and fellow Blackhawks prospects Alexis Gravel and Jake Ryczek.

Beaudin has three goals and 15 assists in 16 games this season.

MacKenzie Entwistle (OHL/Hamilton) — The 2017 third-rounder of Arizona had two multi-point games. He scored twice against Niagara on Saturday and added a goal and an assist the next day against Peterborough. He has 11 goals and 21 points in 23 games in his fourth OHL campaign.

Brandon Hagel (WHL/Red Deer) — The newly-acquired free agent signee scored the game-winning goal with 50 seconds left and had a secondary assist in Red Deer’s win over Kootenay on Friday. Hagel, the 2016 sixth-rounder of Buffalo, has 15 goals and 39 points in 22 games.

Mikael Hakkarainen (USHL/Muskegon) — The 2018 fifth-rounder picked up two assists in Muskegon’s win over Green Bay.

The winger has eight goals and 20 points in 11 games since returning to the USHL.

Jake Ryczek (QMJHL/Halifax) — The 2016 seventh-rounder had a secondary assist. The right-handed defenseman has two goals and 11 points in 24 games in his second QMJHL season.

Alexis Gravel (QMJHL/Halifax) — The 2018 sixth-rounder went 1-2 this week for the Mooseheads. He made 33 saves in a 4-3 overtime win over Charlottetown on Tuesday before not receiving enough support in a 2-1 loss to Baie-Comeau in a 23-save effort Saturday. Things unraveled quickly the next day against Drummondville as he allowed five goals on 13 shots. Gravel is 12-7 with a 2.99 goals-against average and .908 save percentage.

NCAA

Evan Barratt (NCAA/Penn State) — The 2017 third-rounder had a goal and a secondary assist in the Nittany Lions’ 4-3 win over Ohio State on Friday. He leads the nation in scoring with 21 points (10 goals, 11 assists) in 13 games.

Liam Coughlin (NCAA/Vermont) — The 2014 fifth-rounder had two secondary assists in a 5-3 victory Saturday at Dartmouth. He leads the Catamounts in assists (five) and points (six).

Parker Foo (NCAA/Union) — The 2017 fifth-rounder scored the game-winning goal for Union to win the Friendship Four over Boston in Belfast. He has two goals and four points in 10 games.

Jake Massie (NCAA/Vermont) — The 2015 sixth-rounder scored a goal in the Catamounts’ win over Dartmouth. He has two goals and three assists in 10 games during his junior season.

Ian Mitchell (NCAA/Denver) — The 2017 second-rounder had a secondary assist in Denver’s tie with Providence on Saturday. He has 11 points (two goals, nine assists) in 12 games as a sophomore.

Fredrik Olofsson (NCAA/Nebraska-Omaha) — The 2014 fourth-rounder scored his sixth goal of the season in Omaha’s 4-0 win over Arizona State. He has 15 points in 12 games during his junior campaign.

Beau Starrett (NCAA/Cornell) — The 2014 third-rounder had a secondary assist. He has two goals and four points in nine games during his senior season.

EUROPE

Artur Kayumov (KHL/Lokomotiv) — The 2016 second-rounder also had a secondary assist this week. The left winger has three goals and nine points in 30 games.

Tim Soderlund (SHL/Frolunda) — The 2017 fourth-rounder may scored one goal this past week. He has three goals and an assist in 20 SHL games.
