The Chicago Blackhawks paid tribute to two important members to their Stanley Cup success Thursday at United Center.
The team played two videos, one for forward Patrick Sharp and the other for defenseman Johnny Oduya. Sharp, a former alternate captain, played 10 seasons in Chicago and won three Cups, while Oduya won two Cups in his four seasons in Chicago.
“Very special,” Sharp told CSN Chicago of the crowd’s reaction. “First class by a first-class organization. I’ve said many times, I’ve enjoyed my 10 years here in Chicago. Very proud of what we accomplished on and off the ice, got a lot of good friends there on the other side. It was definitely emotional to watch that. Lot of footage when I was younger, just kind of makes you think of all the good times over the years here.”
The Blackhawks traded Sharp to the Stars during the offseason, and let Oduya walk in unrestricted free agency. Both were salary cap casualties.
Both Sharp and Oduya did not tally a point in their return as Dallas defeated Chicago, 4-2. Sharp has tallied a goal and an assist against Chicago this season.
Sharp recorded 255 goals and 296 assists in 733 games during 10 seasons with Chicago. In Dallas, Sharp has 40 points in 55 games.
