Blackhawks prospect Lucas Carlsson and Sweden take on host Canada in a semifinal matchup.
Chicago Blackhawks prospect Lucas Carlsson and Sweden will play host Canada in the second semifinal of the World Junior Championship on Wednesday.
Carlsson is the lone Chicago prospect remaining in the tournament after forwards Radovan Bondra (Slovakia) and Mathias From (Denmark) were eliminated from the tournament during the quarterfinal round Monday. The Swedish defenseman has a goal and two assists in five games in the tournament.
The Swedes earn a spot in the semifinal with a 8-3 win over Slovakia. Canada captured its semifinal bid with a gutty 5-3 victory against the Czech Republic.
In the other semifinal, the United States meets rival Russia. The United States advanced to the semifinal with a 3-2 win over Switzerland while Russia shutout Denmark, 4-0, to earn its spot. It’s a semifinal rematch from last year’s tournament that saw the Russians come away with a 2-1 win before they fell to Finland in the gold-medal game.
