Predators captain Shea Weber to miss rest of first round vs. Blackhawks

Nashville Predators captain Shea Weber hasn’t played since the second period of Game 2, and he won’t return to the series, the team announced Friday.

The Predators top defenseman did not suffer an anterior cruciate ligament injury. He only suffered a lower-body injury as the team previously reported.

Weber suffered the injury after a hit by Blackhawks‘ forward Brandon Saad behind the net in Game 2. He appeared unable to put weight on his right leg as he left the ice.

Weber was injured at 9:20 of the second period after a hit by Blackhawks’ forward Brandon Saad behind the Predators’ net. He appeared unable to put weight on his right leg as he left the ice.

Weber had one assist in 13:25 of ice time in the Preds’ 6-2 victory to even the first-round series at 1-1. In the Game 1 double-overtime game, he logged 38:13 TOI.

The void left by Weber’s absence is begin filled by Ryan Ellis and Seth Jones, both of whom have registered three assists to lead all Predators defensemen in scoring.

Game 6 is Saturday at the United Center. The Blackhawks lead the best-of-seven series 3-2.
