2018 Stanley Cup playoffs: May 13 open thread

The Washington Capitals look to build a 2-0 series lead when they play the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Final on Sunday at Amalie Arena.

The Capitals, who haven’t been to a conference final since winning the one in 1998, built a four-goal lead through the first two periods in a 4-2 victory in Game 1. They also held Tampa Bay’s high-powered offense to a mere 10 shots on goal in the same span.

This isn’t unfamiliar territory for the Lightning, who dropped Game 1 at home to the Boston Bruins before winning four consecutive games to advance to its third conference final in four years. Tampa Bay is only 4-7 in Game 1s, and have won four of the series it has dropped the opening game under coach Jon Cooper. It lost the 2014 first-round series to Montreal and the 2015 Stanley Cup Final to Chicago. People forget that.
