2018 World Championship schedule: May 5 open thread

The second day of the preliminary round at the World Championship with feature five Chicago Blackhawks players.

In Group A, Tomas Jurco and Slovakia will play the Czech Republic. The 25-year-old forward scored six goals and assisted on four others in 29 games this season for Chicago. Jurco, who is set to become a restricted free agent this summer, has six points (two goals, four assists) in 12 career games at Worlds.

In Group B, the United States looks to build off its 5-4 shootout win against Canada on Friday. Forwards Alex DeBrincat, Patrick Kane and defenseman Jordan Oesterle each recorded an assist in the U.S.’ opening victory. Defenseman Connor Murphy didn’t find the scoresheet, but looked serviceable on the backend. Denmark is captained by former Blackhawk Peter Regin, who scored 31 points (eight goals, 23 assists) in his third season with Jokerit in the KHL.

Former Hawks

Teuvo Teravainen, a 2015 Stanley Cup champion with Chicago, and former prospect Ville Pokka will play for Finland against South Korea. Teravainen will make his Worlds debut, while Pokka won silver in the 2016 edition.
