2019 AHL All-Star Skills Competition: IceHogs’ Andrew Campbell in hardest shot, breakaway relay

Rockford IceHogs defenseman Andrew Campbell will participate in the hardest shot and breakaway challenge during the AHL All-Star Skills Competition on Sunday night at MassMutual Center in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Campbell has three goals and an assist in 40 AHL games this season with the Blackhawks’ AHL affiliate in Rockford.

The skills competition consists of six events: puck control relay, fastest skater, rapid fire, accuracy shooting, pass and score and breakaway relay. The rapid fire event has two shooters fire shots on net against goaltenders, with the netminder with the most total saves earning a point for his team.

The skills competition beings at 6 p.m. and will be broadcasted on NHL Network.

In the hardest shot event, Campbell will be joined by Western Conference teammates Milwaukee’s Matt Donovan (Predators), Stockton’s Curtis Lazar (Flames) and San Jose’s Jacob Middleton (Sharks).

The Eastern Conference team will send out Lehigh Valley’s Grey Carey (Flyers), Binghamton’s John Quenneville (Senators), Rochester’s Brendan Guhle (Sabres) and Charlotte’s Trevor Carrick (Hurricanes).

The winning team with the higher average speed earns one point and the player with the hardest shot also receives one point for his team.

Campbell is the first skater in the third round of the breakaway relay with Tucson’s Kyle Capobianco (Coyotes), Bakersfield’s Cooper Marody (Oilers), Ontario’s Sean Walker (Kings) and Chicago’s Erik Brannstrom (Golden Knights). They’ll be up against Hersey goaltender Vitek Vaneck (Capitals) in the relay.

Each individual goal scored counts toward the overall team score.
