Patrick Kane will appear in his eight career NHL All-Star Game, the league announced Wednesday. Kane’s eighth appearance is the most among players in this year’s Jan. 26 game at SAP Center in San Jose.
The superstar winger is the lone Blackhawks representative on the Central Division team. Blackhawks winger Alex DeBrincat will serve as an injury replacement.
Kane leads the Blackhawks in points (50), goals (22) and assists (28) in 41 games this season. DeBrincat’s 18 goals rank second on the team and his 33 points are third on the team behind Kane and Jonathan Toews (36).
One spot in each division will be filled through a fan vote.
Toronto’s Auston Matthews (Atlantic), Colorado’s Nathan MacKinnon (Central) and Edmonton’s Connor McDavid (Pacific) are fan-voted captains. Washington’s Alex Ovechkin was voted captain of the Metropolitan Division but announced Wednesday that he will skip the All-Star Game to rest in preparation for the remainder of the season.
The skills competition will be at 8 p.m. Central time Jan. 25 followed by the All-Star game at 7 p.m. the next day. The skills competition will be broadcasted on NBC Sports Network, while the All-Star game will air on NBC.
