Chicago Blackhawks prospect Alex DeBrincat failed to score a goal in the Erie Otters’ 7-0 win on Sunday, snapping a 19-game goal streak that ties the OHL record. DeBrincat had a chance to take the record for himself with another goal against the Peterborough Petes, but failed to get one for the first time since Jan. 21.
He’s now tied in the record books with former Flyers, Nordiques, and Sharks forward Mike Ricci, who set the record in 1988-89.
It’s been an incredible season for DeBrincat, who now has 62 goals and 60 assists in 60 games with Erie this season. He’s still on a 24-game point streak after dishing an assist against Peterborough, and is blowing away the rest of the league in terms of production.
With 122 points, the winger has 18 more than any other player in the league. Next up with 104 points is his linemate Taylor Raddysh, a good prospect in his own right who has benefited from DeBrincat’s absurd production. Nobody else has crossed triple-digits yet.
In terms of goals, it’s the same deal as DeBrincat has 18 more goals than second-place Dmitry Sokolov, who may or may not be a character from Dishonored 2. There’s nobody coming close to his production, and the remarkable consistency has been a big part of that.
DeBrincat has more multi-goal games (19) than goalless games (18) this season, which should tell you everything you need to know about how good he has been. During the goal streak, he had 47 points in 19 games.
