Alex DeBrincat, Patrick Kane help Team USA top Latvia 3-2 in overtime at 2018 World Championship

Chicago Blackhawks forwards Alex DeBrincat and Patrick Kane each had two assists in Team USA’s 3-2 overtime victory over Latvia in the preliminary round of the World Championship on Thursday in Denmark.

DeBrincat was named Team USA’s player of the game. He recorded primary assists on Chris Kreider’s (New York Rangers) power-play goal in the first period, and Colin White’s (Ottawa Senators) game-tying goal in the second period.

Kane logged secondary assists on White’s goal and Cam Atkinson’s (Columbus Blue Jackets) game-winning goal in overtime.

Kane also had a team-high six shots on goal and DeBrincat had two. Hawks defensemen Connor Murphy had four shots on goal and Jordan Oesterle had none.

Team USA returns to the ice at 12:15 p.m. Friday against South Korea. The game will be broadcasted live on NHL Network.

Other action

Artem Anisimov and prospect Maxim Shalunov each recorded an assist in Russia’s 4-3 overtime loss to the Czech Republic.

Tomas Jurco had two shots on goal in  14:23 of ice time in Slovakia’s 3-1 victory over France.
