Blackhawks officially assign Cody Bass and Pierre-Cedric Labrie to AHL, cut roster to 28

The Chicago Blackhawks have assigned forwards Cody Bass and Pierre-Cedric Labrie to the Rockford Icehogs of the AHL, they officially announced Tuesday morning. The move puts the roster at 28 players, as we expected would happen on Monday night.

Yesterday, the Hawks assigned six players — forwards Joakim Nordstrom, Dennis Rasmussen and Garret Ross, defensemen Adam Clendening and Klas Dahlbeck, and goaltender Scott Darling — to Rockford. All six players saw time during the preseason, but were not realistic options to make one of the most talented rosters in the league.

Chicago’s roster now stands with 16 forwards, nine defensemen and three goaltenders.

The Blackhawks are 2-2 in the preseason so far and have two exhibition games left before opening night at Dallas on Oct. 9. The next contest is Wednesday night at the United Center against the Montreal Canadiens.
